Setting Up Your Email

Because web hosting companies have typically provided email hosting as well, we often get asked about providing email service for the domains whose web sites we host.

With the services now available from Google and others, we don't think it makes sense for us to provide email hosting ourselves — others do a great job for little or no cost. But we've found that many designers are not aware of what's available, and may need a few pointers in setting it up.

The new support article Setting up email for your domain explains how to use Google's free service to host mail for your domain, while Webvanta (or anyone else, for that matter) hosts your web site. As you are probably aware, there are entirely separate DNS settings for the web server and for email delivery, so there's no need for them to be provided by the same host.

We've used this approach for our own email for two years, and have set up dozens of clients, and it works extremely well.
