Connecting Database Items Together

Webvanta makes it easy to set up connections between database items of different types. For example, on the Post Carbon Institute site, there's a database of fellows, and each article, blog post, video, book, and event is linked to one or more fellows. You can also associate assets (typically images) with any database item.

This is something you can do with any database system, but it typically requires a considerable amount of database programming, with join tables, foreign keys, and all that. Webvanta makes it simple, letting you specify everything by creating related item and related asset fields in the form you use to set up your item types. There's just a little bit of WebvantaScript you need to learn to access the related items.

Webvanta also makes is easy to use categories to tie items together, by associating them with the same category. On the Post Carbon Institute site, for example, this capability is used to tie all of the content to particular issues.
