  • Building Sites with Webvanta
Webvanta is a hosted service that enables you to quickly build database-based web sites without programming. There are three major components to the Webvanta system: a content management system (CMS) that enables you to create pages, and to completely control the appearance of all aspects of the site; a database system that automatically generates pages based on information entered by site editors; and a community system that allows visitors to comment and optionally to register.
  • Content Management System
The Webvanta content management system (CMS) makes it easy to create database-backed web sites. You’re completely relieved of all back-end programming and hosting, and you have the flexibility to make your site look exactly how you want. The CMS integrates with the database system to simplify the design and automation of arbitrary numbers of database-driven pages.
  • Where Are My Files?
With the Webvanta system, much of your content is stored in the database, so there's not the same sort of literal mapping to the file system that you're probably accustomed to. For example, a template, or a page, is a structure in the database, and not a file on disk (other than when it is cached to improve performance).
  • Database System
The database stores most of the content for your site. When you add the content, you specify what kind of an item you are adding (the type), and what it is about (the category).
  • Using the Blog
A blog is preinstalled as part of your initial Webvanta site. To add a post, select Blog Posts from the Content menu and click the New Blog Post link. The blog system is highly configurable.
  • Setting Up Your Design
There’s a variety of approaches you can to take for setting up a new design, or converting an existing site, with Webvanta. In this article, we’ll start with the simplest method, and then gradually show how to make additional changes to take more advantage of Webvanta’s unique capabilities.
  • Understanding Webvanta's Caching System
The Webvanta system works hard to give you the best of both worlds: the performance of static pages, and the flexibility of dynamic pages. It's important to understand how the caching system works so you can fully optimize your site's performance.
